Dear Mayor Dyer,
I want to applaud your recent efforts to initiate sweeping change in Orlando when it comes to environmental practices. As Orlando's greenest business, I am encouraged that the city is ready to take a hard look at it's practices and start educating our citizens on ways they can make a difference. I'm sure that you saw the recent article in the Orlando Weekly and I hope that this draws your attention to the funding issues that surround your green business program. I've met several people involved with this
program and they are enthusiastic about a more comprehensive program, one that is truly green, and not just what us in the industry call greenwashing. If you want a credible green city, then you must go beyond surface flash and get deeply rooted in real green initiatives that reduce, reuse and recycle.
One of the most obvious things this city could do is put out recycle bins throughout public areas and downtown, launch a comprehensive commercial recycling program, and work on energy reduction in the form of solar powered streetlights and items like this. If you would like to learn more about what it means to be a green business, I would be honored to have you over to our cafe, which is certified green by a national agency, and features organic food, a commercial sized worm composter for our food waste, a community herb garden, solar powered, LED & CFL lights, compostable to-go containers (made out of corn instead of plastic) and many other features. Plus, we have the best chili in town :-) Let me know when you'd like to go on a casual tour of our community-centered eco-cafe.
Sustainably Yours,
